AMEX / British Airways promotion

I know…you missed your chance to sign up for the British Airways branded Chase card and you’re still crying yourself to sleep at least three nights a week. Just think, if you had been quicker on the draw (or had better credit), all those miles could have been yours. 50,000 miles at signup and an additional 50,000 after spending $2,500 in the first three months. 100,000 British Airways miles for doing virtually nothing. You’d be well on your way to a first class ticket across the Atlantic.

Well, I can’t dry your eyes, but I can pep you up a little bit (provided you have an AMEX that earns Membership Rewards Points). AMEX has an offer running at least until July 31st (it has been extended in the past), where every 1,000 AMEX MR points you transfer to a British Airways Executive Club account (BA’s FF program) will credit as 1,500 miles.

Normally 1,000 MR points = 1,000 BA miles, so you’re getting a favorable 1:1.5 redemption rate. Jump on this deal to top off your BAEC account and keep your eyes peeled for the best values in BA’s system (BA is a OneWorld Alliance member). In my opinion, the two best award redemption offers through BA are 1. one-way North America to South America (or the reverse) in Business Class (BA partner LAN offers direct JFK-SCL flights) for 40,000 miles. With the 1:1.5 deal from AMEX, a one-way jaunt from New York to Santiago, Chile will now run you just 27,000 AMEX points and 2. JFK-HKG one-way in First Class on BA partner Cathay Pacific for 75,000 BA miles (50,000 AMEX points). Cathay offers one of the best First Class products in the sky, and a pleasant 14+ hour journey from NY to HKG is a steal at 50,000 AMEX points…if you can find availability.
